Easy, Concise Primer on Evangelism

If you find "The Way of the Master" to be too long, then try this book--especially if you are leading a small group interested in sharing their faith. The author details how Jesus, Paul, the apostles, and John the Baptist used the Law to bring their hearers to repentance and salvation and faith in Christ alone. Like so many of Comfort's excellent books, this one is desperately needed in the American church today where so many are trusting in a false conversion experience.

My whole life I somewhat tried to live by this phrase, "What would Jesus do?" I'm sure you've heard it, its a pretty popular saying. But after reading this book I've realized that we don't need to ask ourselves what would He do, but just read the Bible and see what He DID DO!!!! Ray Comfort is a genius and I just bought all his books. He has opened my eyes to so many parts of the Bible. This is a quick easy great read!!! You could read it in 2-4 days and gain so much insight into the life of Jesus. The main point I think is that today most of the churches are like, Jesus Loves You, blah blah blah.. Yes of course He loves you, look what He did for you, but people need to understand why He did what He did and what you need to do to accept what He did. Its not just about living a 'good' life, or just simply being a 'good' person. Jesus said the greatest commandment was loving Him. Most people will say, well I love him. But in our English language the word 'love' is used for many different types of love. In Greek there are many different words for love and the term Jesus used was, agapae (not sure on spelling) but it means a God kind of love, unconditional love no matter what, the same kind of love He has for us. The only way we can love Him that way is if we first accept His love, then and only then could we give a God kind of love back to Him. Love is an action, not a feeling. Does your life show Jesus that you love/agapae Him? Examine yourself, ask for forgiveness, run from your sins the Bible says and transform your life around Christ. The End is near, Hell is real, but I pray that Heaven awaits you. God Bless

Beck-Ryall rates each trek in terms of difficulty and provides good directions for getting to each trail. She also offers at-times humorous accounts of her own experiences on these trails and gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect in the way of sights and sounds. All in all, it's an invaluable companion for any weekend hiker. Highly recommended.

Essential for Canadian Train Travel

Overall, this is a very helpful guide to Canadian trains, and particularly the "Canadian" trains #1 and #2. I really enjoyed the background information, especially the brief Canadian history and the history of the building of the railroad. The book provided a valuable context without having to slog through a much longer detailed history of the route.

I found the "Sites of Interest" along the route very helpful, especially since the author did a very good job of tying the locations to the rail mileposts. I wish that he had provided a bit more info on major cities, and more brief info on some of the tiny settlements we passed through. He seemed to try and give all entries equal size, despite their relative importance. There was also a bit too much fluff in some places, such as a roughly 10 page section on train "yoga" (stretching) exercises that appeared to be lifted wholesale from another source.

I found the individual section maps to be very well done. A full country map would have been helpful, but it would have been difficult to convey useful information in a small format. I had no problem with ordering the author's very well designed companion maps.

There are many Canadian guidebooks available, and there are several other generic "Canada by Train" books, but this book was written by an author with a real passion for the subject. I strongly recommend it.

A mixed bag. It has detailed technical information about the rolling stock and train routes but suffers from poor English expression - in many parts it appears to have been inexpertly translated from another language. A notable omission is a map of Canada as a whole with the rail routes included.

Used Book on Trip

Just got back from Canada. The book is a great introduction to Canada and Via Rail. Part of our trip was on The Canadian. The book was very helpful. It was really useful to have points of interest listed by mile markers on the track. As a note, there is also a high-end luxury train, the Rocky Mountaineer, going through parts of western Canada. It is not part of Via Rail, therefore not covered in the book.

The best book on 1031 Exchanges

This is the best book solely devoted to 1031 exchanges that I've read. The author explains how these exchanges work in a friendly, conversational style. It reminds me of a pleasant discussion alongside of a fireplace. Yet the author covers the subject comprehensively and answers all the questions you would normally think of -- and a couple you might not have thought of yet that are very important. I recommend this book with the highest praise.

Rabbi Rami Shapiro is an award winning poet and essayist, whose liturgical writings are used in prayer services throughout North America. He has written over a dozen works of poetry, liturgy, short story and nonfiction. He is a graduate of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and holds a doctoral degree in religious studies from Union Graduate School. The Thou of Reality

According to The Alliance for Jewish Renewal (ALEPH) "Jewish renewal seeks to bring creativity, relevance, joy, and an all embracing awareness to spiritual practice, as a path to healing our hearts and finding balance and wholeness--tikkun halev." Rami Shapiro's writings are perhaps unique in the literature of the Renewal in their particular relevance to non- or post-halakhic Jews. Rami emphasizes principle over practice, spirit over letter, and does not make idols of God, Israel, and Torah.

Rami's writings also embody the basic principle of Reconstructionism that Jewish people invent Jewish religion. In Rami's case, he brings his experience of the non-dual Advaita, Zen, and Taoist traditions to his reading of Hasidism, the Prophets, and the Wisdom literature. For those of us who meditated or chanted our way through the late 60s and 70s, Rami's approach will feel familiar and his Judaism both natural and compelling.

OPEN SECRETS is a series of letters written by a fictitious Old World rabbi of the late 1800s or early 1900s to a student who has emigrated to America. The letters from "Reb Yerachmiel ben Israel" cover such matters as God, creation, human nature, evil, Torah, mitzvah, prayer, death, other religions, even Jesus! They are short letters, at most a few pages, and they are written in a homey style by a rabbi who who likely would have been impossible in his time and place but one we would all have loved to know and learn from.

Reb Yerachmiel is the rabbi Rami Shapiro says he would like to be, and therefore to whatever extent already is. All of Rami's books are worth reading, but OPEN SECRETS is one you will want to read and read again as its soul speaks to yours.

I can't recommend this book highly enough for Liberal Jews who perceive and relate to God as the Thou of Reality and who wish to repair the brokenness in themselves and in the world in a spirit of peace and joy.

Nondual Judaism

Open Secrets is really a collection of letters by Rami M. Shapiro to his son, Aaron Hershel. However, Shapiro has turned the writings into decades-old hand-written letters from the fictional Reb Yerachmiel ben Yisrael to Shapiro's fictional great-grandfather, Aaron Hershel. Got that? The twist in time, place, and participants gives the book a timelessness, a sense of striking Judaic modernity, and lots of human interest.

Shapiro talks about Judaism as being characterized by the inseparable qualities of tikkun (right action) and teshuvah (right attention). This is basic and practical nondual Judaism, as the following quotation demonstrates:

"You and I and all living things are the vessels of God, the embodiment of Elohut (Godhead). In this we are one with God, yet we imagine ourselves to be separate from God and this creates in us the idea of brokenness. The brokenness of the world starts as a process in the mind, but it doesn't end there. We go about the world breaking it up into smaller and smaller segments, each often at war with the rest, without ever realizing we are warring with ourselves.

"Tikkun is the process of putting things back together again."

I enjoyed the book

I bet many under 40 doesn`t even know who Walter Reuther was.He championed many gains for working people like decent pay and benifits,health and safety and others.

Sadly the power elite is taking many of those things away in just the last few years with this so called free trade being the catalyst.

Some people might call Walter Reuther a socialist.In the end most people would go along with his way of thinking than the extreme right wing forces that rule today.

Isn`t it interesting all the liberal warriors that died during this period.JFK,MLK,RFK and Walter Reuther.

At any rate a good book written by his daughter Lisa.

Great Sequel to Riley's "When I am Quiet on Maui" book....another "fav" of my 2yr. and 4 yr. old sons.... Holds the attention span from cover to cover----even my 2 yr. old--likely due to such bold, beautiful illustrations and interactive nature of book helps keep the focus...and the 4 yr. old delights in "the hidden words" in the pics and is fascinated with it overall!!!! It is another MUST HAVE for the preschool/early elementary age group!!!!

My son loves the whimsical illustrations. I love that it teaches my son the idea of getting rewarded by being quiet and paying attention to what nature has to tell you. Judi has a unique style all her own. If you plan on visiting hawaii, this is must read, must have. Even if you don't plan on visiting, this book is a great way for your little ones to learn about what kind of animals live in Hawaii. As a marinelife conservationist here in hawaii, I must also mention the importance of teaching our kids to appreciate species that are threatened or endangered (and included here in this title).

Have fun exploring the island and meeting endangered animals

WOW! What a fabulous concept for a kids book! The story begins: "When you are quiet what do you hear," then continues "When you are still what do you see?" We read this one over and over again. It leads to awesome discussions and it is really fun learning about the different animals on Oahu. I had no idea so many of them were endangered species. This is a really nice sequel to Riley's first book about Maui. We've never been to Oahu, but after reading this book, we feel like we've been there dozens of times. Definitely get this book if you love the islands!
