Great cards!

My son has responded well to the flashcards in this series. I laminated them for extra durability and then put rings on the left side to make them like a book so they wouldn't get thrown around the house.

He uses the animal signs when we read about animals he knows, when he sees animals he knows and when we talk about animals he knows. I have so enjoyed teaching him these signs and know he'll use them for a long time. His speech is coming along well but he continues to use the signs with his words at 20 months.

My only regret is that we should have bought more parts of this series early on.

A thoughtful and fascinating read, very highly recommended

Human trafficking is a vile thing that still occurs to this day. "Various Men Who Knew Us as Girls" follows protagonist Hester Smith as she faces her past as she works with law enforcement against an illegal sex trade cartel. Through her own crusade, she faced with the regrets of her past and what could have been, trying to come to terms with her own insecurities. "Various Men Who Knew Us as Girls" is a thoughtful and fascinating read, very highly recommended.

A delightful surprise

My husband and I plan to retire to New Mexico. I am an avid reader of anything about New Mexico. When I came across this book, I couldn't resist. It was waaay different from what I was expecting. This is a collection of stories written about a time in the years before 1970 telling about what it was like to grow up in Los Alamos. I never knew that this city was so much like Oz in the middle of what I have come to think of as a quaint southwestern culture. The author tells some truly fascinating and remarkable stories about a most famous place, but from a unique and funny and sometimes heartwrenching perspective. There were times when I wanted to reach out to that little boy and hug him, and there were times when I wanted to spank him. All in all, I couldn't put it down until I was finished. At first I thought about giving it four stars, because when I finished, I wanted there to be more. But I kept thinking about the book for days, and when a book does that for me, it really deserves five. It's concise, well written, it's like balancing between heaven and hell and it will leave you thinking for days afterwards.

Ah Yes, I remember it well

Having grown up in Los Alamos and being in the class of 1970 with Glenn I truly enjoyed this humorous piece of nonfiction. People to this day say, "Wow..growing up in Los Alamos in the '60's must have been fascinating!" But consider, for us it was just home. Having been one of the many to experience the effects of the UFO incident , the mystery behind the blasted rock wall, the learning materials center fiasco (just to name a few) it was enlightening, to say the least, to read of the details of the cause(s).

For anyone who has a deep appreciation for the absurd and is interested in getting a sense of growing up in Los Alamos (or as we sometimes referred to it 'Dodge', as in get out of ...) in the late sixties I highly recommend this book.

Once you open this book, plan on finishing it in one sitting. It is a facinating collection of stories that will encourage a smile. The book addresses an adolescent of the 70's telling of the life in Los Alamos during the peak of childhood development. Most of the stories will make you laugh, some will make you ponder. A very entertaining read!

I gobble up this little quarterly journal... it is full of legible history-theory with lots of great references and images. i enjoy the new takes on old material, and fleshing out of new and old ideas. a must for anyone interested in contemporary architecture-urbanism-landscape discourse. valuable links to art criticism as well.

Very useful for SAT II and precalculus classes

I am a high school math teacher and I have been using this book in my precalculus classes. The author presents a unique method of combining math with TI as well as giving a variety of examples each of which is fully solved. This book is also useful for a self - teaching student as the book covers every detail sequentially from basics to advanced levels. The examples are neat and the solutions are detailed. Every student and teacher can use this book very confidently.

One of a kind!

I had taken the 2C test in January for the first time when I realized that I should have learnt the calculator techniques better. Then I saw Barron's 2C book; it had a chapter devoted to the TI calculator. I had great expectations that eventually turned into a complete frustration. Then a friend of mine, who is an expert TI user, recommended me this book. which teaches the TI 83 calculator in and out in a step by step fashion. Thanks to this book, I may even score an 800 on the 2C test this time.

OK in Math 2 with TI-83 family; obsolete with TI-89 Titanium

You won't need techniques from this book on the SAT Subject Test in Math Level 1.
Most of the questions on this test are designed to be solved easily "by hand", and if you find one or two on which you could graph, then adjusting the window and manipulating "Calc zero" will take you 5 times longer than a straight forward solution.

Author's claim in his other book and on his site of squeezing
40(?) hours of precalculus into 4 hours using this book is preposterous.
It's obvious that if you want a decent score, you need not even bother trying to take Math Level 2 without knowing the precalc fundamentals. There are 3-5 questions on Math 2 where graphing might help, so skim through this book.
On the other hand, if you mastered TI-89, you will very likely do without graphing altogether, crunching equations in a sinch.

Now, on a different note. I am not the first one who noticed that 99% of Mr.Meylani books' raving reviewers did not write any others (check their "See all my other reviews" links). Enlisting one or a bunch of friends to register on Amazon.com with made up names and locations seems like not an improbable marketing ploy to me.

Many Interesting Recipes

Author Mary Lou Mott has written this book in memory of her beloved son, James Kenneth Bean Jr. James loved hog baying, not sure what that is? Read the book to find out how this sport originated, how many people really enjoy it, and some interesting facts about hogs; a lot of facts I had no clue about and found to be an informative addition to the work.
The book includes recipe after recipe on different variations of cooking pork. Each recipe is a contribution from the author's friends and family; we even have state senators and representatives sharing their favorites. On each page we are treated to some wonderful pictures that depict the joy of life. Perhaps it is a tender picture with great-grandpa and the children, or a grouping of friends and family. They are like a journey without words that adds a personal touch to the work .Up date: I wanted to update this review and let you know that our family is still using this excellent book to make excellent food. Hope you are enjoying it as well.

The recipes sound mouth-watering and I love the idea of trying time-tested ones that have been family favorites for years. I have to try "Apple Baked Pork Chops," (pg. 39, contributed by Gary Bell). They really sound good; and my daughter is determined to make"Breakfast Trash,"(pg 53, contributed by Tommy Burk), for her family.

If you enjoy the sport of hog baying or just love eating pork, this book is for you. Presented in a comfortable, down home style, it's packed full of recipes to wet your whistle and fill your tummy with good eating, this one will be a treasurer in your kitchen.
