This book is the extended and revised second edition of our book "10 Realistic SAT II Math IIC Test Booklets" ISBN: 0974886858. Previously we had givem the solutions on the internet; now we have also published the solutions. SAT Math Level 2 Subject Test was previously known as the SAT II Math IIC test.
From the Author
This book is specifically designed to provide an SAT bound student with a good practice on SAT Math Level 2 Subject Test (formerly known as SAT 2 Math Level 2C). The latest trends have been observed to come up with accuracy. We have however been careful to make our tests slightly harder than the actual test. Other than that each of our 15 tests are very close to what a student may encounter on the test day.

Good book, not the best though

This is a good book, especially when compared to the books on the same subject. Since it contains only practice tests and two calculator techniques, it would be better to comment on the effectiveness of these seperately. First of all, solving equations and inequalities with the graphing clculator is an important concept that are covered in this book. I would recommend the author to include more detail on the related chapter in the future editions. The tests are hard, which is both good and bad. It is good because it overpreps a student for the real test. It is bad because it does not give a good estimate of the score one can get for reals. I have been telling my students to use this book for sure since there are not many books that containg so many tests in a single volume, but with the warning that they should not worry about two things: the scores they get in these tests and their timing. A student is likely to complete a test in this book in 75 to 90 minutes.
So far I have discovered three errors in this book. I would like the author to publish a correction page on his site and I would also like him to post his comments on the ambiguous questions such as the one posted by Eugene Hazanov. Sin(x)=35 degrees; the author coverts the 35 degrees to radians in the solution and then uses arcsin to find the primary solution for x. Although it is not mathematically incorrect, I have never seen such a question in the textbooks. The and - or ambiguities must be revised as well.
Consequently I recommend this book with some minor reservations.

Hard but very helpful

The major advantage of using this book is that it is the most recent book available in the market and it leaves no surprises to its reader since it covers all question types likely to appear in the Math Level 2 Subject Test. This book skips the basics and puts a special emphasis on what a student might be weak at. Therefore it will not be a surprise to see that a student gets 650 on the average while using this book but score 800 in the reality. If the questions are rated on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the easiest and 10 being the hardesr, the author of this book skips the easiest questions, i.e. the questions at the 1 to 4 range.
The answer explanations are short, for example while solving a system of equations the author gives the equations and the key steps for solving it and skips the basic steps and leaves them to the reader.
Questions are realistic; a student will not encounter any question that she has not seen in this book. Traditionally College Board has surprises in every Level 2 test. Another advantage of using this book, again, is that it is possible to see all possible versions of the newest question types in this book.
A student using this book is assumed to know the basics of precalculus enough to figure out what is being meant in a certain question. Moreover, the questions are trickier than those in reality; the author often employs traps involving unit conversions and decimal points.
As a teacher of mathematics my overall comment about this book is that it is harder than usual, but very helpful.

Hmm...

[...] I would like to warn everyone that the explinations in this book are very vauge and he constantly makes asumptions that you know things that you may not. There are more than 2 errors, there are quite a few. For example, there is one question that he solves with a certain exponet to get a certian ratio. I solved it correctly as well, but the ratio is different. The tests range from REALLY hard to moderatly hard. The tests in this book, the author even said so himself, are harder than the real thing, but offer good and semi-realistic practice. The explinations are what give this book a 3. Sometimes, the explination to a tough problem is, "the requested probobility is in answer C" or "all of them but II work" or "all of them are possible". This doesn't help AT ALL! The explinations are too short to be really useful. All in all, a good book with tons of practice. But DON'T rely on this book to teach you the material.
