PreSchool-Grade 1 - A retelling in verse of the well-known story. Because the meter varies from one couplet to another, the cadence is hard to maintain while reading aloud. Additional constraints to the narrative come from using the alphabet as an organizational framework. Between Ark and Zebra, numerous animals board the vessel. Four pages at the end summarize the voyage and disembarkation. The richly hued illustrations are adequate but unexceptional. White-bearded, bald Noah seems to be a kindly old gentleman who appreciates animals. His wife and sons make a token appearance, but no daughters-in-law join the group. Most libraries probably don't need another Noah story unless the book has exceptional artistic or narrative merit. Adorable Mice and Jackrabbits

Michael Glenn Monroe has created a whimsical environment where the animals from Noah's Ark have wonderful personalities. Noah also has a beautiful spirit and can be found counting insects as the two adorable Jackrabbits "with big friendly eyes" look curiously at the butterflies.

I love the picture of Noah wrapped in a quilt and walking around in the rain with an umbrella. U is for umbrella and Q for quilt.

The interior of the ship is also shown. We find "T is for Turtles, safe in their shells" and "M is for mice." Noah is feeing them a bit of cheese.

The last few pages show all the animals leaving and walking to a new home. There is a pastel rainbow and children will feel the excitement of the animals starting a new life as the Ark sits on dry land.

The humorous rhyming text by Michael and Colleen helps children learn the alphabet and could also help them learn to write poetry. This is the most fun I've seen a writer and an artist have with the Noah's Ark story. Michael Glenn Monroe is an award-winning wildlife artist and Colleen credits her children for being the inspiration for her books.

Absolutely Delightful!!!!

A is for Ark is a wonderful supplement to the story of Noah. The author lovingly takes the reader by the hand and guides them through the alphabet using entertaining rhymes that will delight any child. Along with the fun-loving narrative the pictures bring a sense of tenderness with the warm, rich colors. All four of my children absolutely love this book and I have given several copies as gifts at baby showers and birthdays. Once again the Monroe team creates another great book!!!

Chef Robert and his wife Barb have been sharing romantic dinners for over 24 years. In their new book they show you how to create four course dinners. There are three dinners to choose from and there are extremely detailed instructions that anyone can follow. The shopping lists are especially helpful and they also include a section on tools and equipment so you have everything before you start cooking. The tear-out invitations are a nice touch and the romantic ideas throughout the book help to make your evening unforgettable.

The recipes from the third rendezvous include:

Shrimp with Julienne of Vegetables in a Zesty Cream Sauce
Salad Greens with Vegetable Tower
Pork Chops Stuffed with Spinach, Apple and Wild Rice Blend
Raspberry Flan

Now if this seems like a lot to cook all in one night then you will be happy to know that there is a "Seven Day Planner" for each evening. Most of the work occurs one or two days before you serve your dinner. In the first meal the planner says to make the Chocolate Mousse on Day 5 and then the rest of the dinner is made on Day 6. On Day 7 you are mostly concerned with cooking the main course (which is all prepared and in the refrigerator) and serving dishes you have already prepared (like the salad).

If you love to cook with your partner then you will want to skip to the third dinner where you can cook together. Each recipe has a full-color picture and detailed instructions. Overall this is an excellent way to seduce your partner with delicious gourmet foods. The "Conversation Igniters" also make sure you are talking about interesting subjects.

What a fabulous cook book idea

What a great idea. Here is a very beautiful book, with DVD to show exactly how to make a five star gourmet meal for just you and your "Lov'er". Chef Rob'ert shares some of his secret recipes for the first time; and does so in such a pleasant, clear manner, that you can't fail to turn out an exquisitely romantic dinner. Even the setting, the ambiance, the conversation is all portrayed beautifully.And what an atttractive and charming wife he has to assist, and be 'ze objet de amor' ! ( They speak perfect english, you should be relieved..they are an American couple ). This is a great idea. I hope to see a whole series of these -as long as Chef Rob'ert is willing to reveal ...shhh..his top secret recipes!

About the Author
Ivan Turgenev was born into a wealthy, landed family in Oryol, Russia on October 28, 1818, the son of a chronically philandering cavalry officer and an unhappy, abusive heiress. As a child one of the family serfs read him verses from the Rossiad of Kheraskov, and Turgenev’s early attempts at literature and poetry gave indications of genius. He was sent to study at the University of Berlin in 1838 and returned impressed with German society, believing Russia could best improve itself by incorporating ideas from the Age of Enlightenment. Turgenev made a name for himself, beginning in 1852, with the short-story collection A Sportsman’s Sketches. He followed with the novels Rudin in 1854, A Nest of the Gentry in 1858, and On The Eve in 1859. Yet Turgenev’ s seeming pro-Western philosophy led to a tempestuous relationship with his countrymen—Tolstoy, at one point, challenging him to a duel—and his masterpiece Fathers and Sons, released in 1862, went largely unappreciated in his home country. Disillusioned, Turgenev wrote progressively less and less, spending ever more time abroad later in life. He died at Bougival, near Paris, on 4 September 1883.

"Let us be friends--that's what."

So Zinaida, the 21-year-old object of desire in FIRST LOVE, tells the 16-year-old narrator.

So the accursed "let's be friends" line that objects of desire crush the hearts of men with dates back to at least 1833. (It's probably been around since the dawn of man, but I've heard it since the 1970s).

FIRST LOVE is a short but powerful novella that captures a young man's awakening while exploring all the "ecstacy" and "that slow poison" of adult love.

What struck me about reading it was how little people have changed. Societies and manners may shift a bit but the passions and betrayals that take place in the novel are as dramatic and real as anything you hear about today.

"O youth! youth! you go your way heedless, uncaring--as if you owned all the treasures of the world; even grief elates you, even sorrow sits well upon your brow. You are self-confident and insolent and you say, 'I alone am alive--behold!' even while your own days fly past and vanish without trace and without number, and everything within you melts away like wax in the sun...in the snow...."

For such a short work, there were many such passages that really connected with me. Turgenev was a master.

Another Tragic Love Story...Plus

Turgenev creates prose so spare, yet so elegant you find yourself rereading entire paragraphs just to try to net some hidden agenda behind the simplicity. Turgenev's influence on Hemingway was probably never more brilliantly expressed than in these understated words from A Moveable Feast: "I had read all of Turgenev...(of Dostoevsky) frailty and madnesss...were there to know as you knew the landscapes and roads in Turgenev..."
This book is more than a simple love story between a young man and an older woman, though the idea of the shortness and depthlessness of young love is an important theme. There are also such themes as the dissolution and fall into poverty of the Russian nobility as seen in Zinaida and her mother, a former princess; the idea of 19th century Russia shrugging off the chains of serfdom and royal dominance is also explored in the vastly superior Fathers and Sons. Another noteworthy theme is alienation from parents and society in general; Vladimir Petrovich is dominated utterly by his menacing father and carking, gossipy mother. He grows to become a bachelor, rehashing his tragic story before a fireplace in an inn. Towards the end of the book, when Vladimir's father, who shares with Vladimir a strong affection for Zinaida, flogs the young girls arm with a riding crop, as well as the threat the father gives to one of Zinaida's numerous suitors, we are made to wonder exactly what part romantic relationships have in the alleviation or exacerbation of violent mental illness, or at least a violent and cold mindset.
This book, however deep and lovingly crafted, is a cipher next to Fathers and Sons. It's also a lot shorter; first time Turgenev readers might want to start here.

About the Author
Mitchel Whitington is an author and lecturer on the paranormal. He has explored haunted locations from coast to coast, incorporating his experiences into his writing and speaking. Originally born in East Texas, Mitchel returned to the Pineywoods section of Texas several years ago. He has an 1861 home in Jefferson, Texas named The Grove, which he shares with his wife, basset hounds, and several spirits.

One of my favorite stories was the one at the Irma in Cody, WY. The author and his wife personally experienced a ghostly phenomenon there in their room.

I was absolutely chilled when I read that story!

I have been to several of the hotels listed in this book.

One of the ones I've been to is the Eldridge Hotel in Lawrence, KS.

They actually have a photo there that they keep behind the front desk that someone took of a ghost in the elevator.

I've seen that picture- It's VERY EERIE. (I wasn't fortunate enough, though, to catch a glimpse of a ghost there with my own eyes!)

He is a great writer!

LOVE IT

I saw this book and thought "OOOHHH, I so have to read this", and I am glad that I did.

I love how the author gives us a brief history of each location, good foods to eat, etc. before going on about the actual haunting. Given the history of each place makes these hauntings that much more interesting to read about instead of hearing "XYZ place has a spirit of an old lady wandering the halls..." I am interested in visiting these places because the author of this book has made everything seem so real and appealing.

This is a refreshing and delightful book written by someone who is obviously as intrigued by ghosts as many of us "ghost aficionados"! He spent much time and money traveling to every state in the country to visit a haunted location- most of them inns or hotels. Mr. Whitington's chapters convey his enjoyment and enthusiasm and make this a fun read as well as a travel resource.

UNIQUE

What is really unique about this book is that the Psychic Medium author describes what he felt when he encountered the ghosts of Cape May. Not being especially psychic, I have always been curious about what psychic ghost investigators feel when they encounter the paranormal. If you are interested in ghost investigations, I really recommend that you read this book and I am looking forward to Ghosts Of Cape May, part 2, due out next spring.

Excellent Ghost Story

I ordered this book and received it very promptly. I just started reading it and I love Ghost stories. I just love this book. My local library does not carry any of the Craig Mcmanus books on The Ghosts of Cape May. I am very glad I ordered this book. I also ordered Book 2 from another seller and am awaiting its arrival. I will definitely order Book 3 within the next week. I must have them all. Pictures are amazing and very well written.

About the Author
Amir Said is a writer, publisher, musician, and father from Brooklyn, NY. In addition to writing and managing the BeatTips Network of music education websites, Said also runs Superchamp Books. Great NYC Memoir!

I didn't expect to like Ghetto Brother quite as much as I did. But Benjy Melendez's memoir is a captivating read that is really a coming of age story that takes place during the height of the South Bronx gang wars in the '60s and early '70s. Its amazing what Melendez went through and that, despite leading a street gang and and his internal identity issues, he was still able to bring about positive change in the end. The story vividly captures the history and transformation of New York City during that time while highlighting the humanity and transformation of a true leader. Its really great read!!

A story everyone should read!

This is an incredibly timely story given the changes that continue to evolve in the Bronx. Since I read this memoir I have been hearing more and more about the Bronx as the next 'place to be.' And I feel as if I have an inside glimpse into the history of the South Bronx and the person who helped shape it into what it is today. It's a story about the South Bronx in a very transformative time in its history and that of NYC. But it's also a story about leadership and family and choices and ethics. I was amazed by Benjy's personal story; how he became a leader at such a young age and how big a life Benjy lived. I was riveted by this kid who was the leader of a gang but whose father was such a steady source of what's 'right' and 'wrong' and how his father's positive influence and stability in his life eventually impacted Benjy's actions. It's a powerful story that will leave you wanting to know more about the history of where you live and wanting to hang out with Benjy to hear more!

A book you'll keep talking about

After reading Ghetto Brother, I left my copy lying around my apt, and so many people have come to ask about it – because between the music and the history, everyone can’t get over the real story of the Bronx and this guy’s personal journey. I just keep telling them: please read it so I can talk to you more about this story.... Living in New York since college, I was always aware of how the city constantly changes and evolves and how the playing field is never even. But for me as a Jewish NY’er this is another side that’s never been on my radar. Because this story is first hand it really gets you in the heart. Abruptly an innocent childhood becomes a post-war gang. This was the sentence I will always remember: “It was a hopeless situation but I never lost hope”. So this is one of those books you not only read for yourself, but you just keep telling everyone else to so you have someone to talk about it with.

Look No Further for YOUR Self-Improvement

"Mindset - Programming Your Mind for Success", is an excellent book and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve the quality of their life. It is one of the best investments I have made in the context of motivation and self-fulfillment. It has also assisted me in other ways both emotionally and physically.

Since reading Mindset, my life has changed significantly in many aspects. Each day, my life continues to improve.

When I first read Mindset, I was going through a difficult time in my life in numerous ways. A traumatic experience had occurred several months prior, (Aug. 2007), which I had severe difficulties with. After reading this book and practicing the techniques, I gained a new perspective, and consequently was able to lessen the impact of the tragedy and become more optimistic.

It has also significantly assisted me in pain management, which was troubling me for nearly fourteen years, after suffering an injury to the spine. While it has not cured my pain entirely, it certainly has helped in decreasing it, while many other procedures and methods have either been of minimal relief, or totally ineffective.

It has also assisted me in enhancing my vocal skills. In this instance, I can break this down into separate categories : The first being in a general sense, (in addition to practicing the techniques in Jamie's other book, Raise Your Voice II), and secondly, due to the aforementioned injury. As a result my injury, I have undergone numerous surgeries, five to be exact, to the cervical spine. Several doctors had told me I would never sing again as a result, due to the anterior procedures. With Mindset, I have not only overcome the obstacle, but have exceeded my own expectations.

I have also noticed a marked decrease in my pain levels in the lumbar spine, and had undergone a surgical procedure in the past as well, once again as a result of the same injury dating back to 1994.

Once again, due to another traumatic incident on September 23, 2008, I found myself lessen the emotional impact of this one much more quickly.

I can only attribute these changes in my life to Mindset, as all other methods of improvement and "peace of mind" have been of minimal, or no assistance to me.

Mindset has become a daily routine in my life, and I can only imagine the possibilities in the future.

I must add that I have had the opportunity to visit two of my doctors, and also, have acquired a medical report from my orthopedic surgeon, who, I might add, is world renowned in the newest and most advanced surgical techniques regarding spinal and brain injuries.

As a result of my injury, my primary physician, an internist, and my chiropractor have noticed that since I have been utilizing Mindset, my general outlook on life, my optimism, and my pain level has decreased. Neither can believe how much my life has changed in the past several months, and both are very well aware of the difficulties I have encountered over the past several years. When asked by both what has brought about such a change, I related that I had found an excellent resource to assist me in my daily life, "Mindset". Since then, both have assured me that they would highly recommend that I continue with "Mindset". Obviously, I told them I there is no way I would abandon such an excellent "program". I was also assured that they would be "RECOMMENDING MINDSET" to other patients with difficulties such as mine.

It is important to note that since my last surgery, I was still suffering from pain, and was told that I would have to "live with it", as there was nothing more that could be done surgically. As quoted in my surgeon's latest report : "This patient has been using a variety of different herbal remedies which has helped with his pain as well as a NEW BIOFEEDBACK TECHNIQUE CALLED MINDSET WHICH HAS HELPED IN HIS PAIN AS WELL AS HIS DEPRESSION AND OUTLOOK". To that, I can only add that I DO NOT HAVE TO "LIVE WITH IT".

Another 5 Star book by Jamie Vendera. I highly recommend this book, and would encourage anyone looking for self improvement to purchase it. Included with the purchase is the ability to access the newly instituted forum specifically created for Mindset. Life Changing Book!

Sharolyn Sidebottom is an amazing author! She shares practical advice on how to walk this life! I have had some tough times in my life and this book helped me to seek Jesus and lean on Him to help me get through those tough times! In this book she uses real life examples to illustrate how we can trust God to see us through the difficult "crawl spaces" of life and be victorious! If we focus on God through the tough times, God will make a way and bring joy! Don't give up - lift up your hands and worship God and He will pull you through! This book is a must read because we all go through the tough places in life and need encouragement!

About the Author
Tony Johnson, MBA, PMP has over 15 years experience as a Project Manager in industries such as telecommunications, financial, consulting, hardware and software development, education and manufacturing. He has multiple years of experience in training and curriculum development training in areas such as technology, manufacturing, Internet, and electronic commerce and Project Management.

Mr. Johnson is also an award-winning member of the Dallas PMI chapter (one of the world's largest chapters with over 2600 members, 50% of whom are PMPs), as well as a past member of the chapter's education committee. He has also been a key presenter at the chapter's PMP Forum.

Mr. Johnson has a bachelors degree in Business Administration and Finance from Dallas Baptist University, and an MBA in Operations and Strategic Management from Dallas Baptist University. He is also on the teaching staff at Southern Methodist University (SMU) and has taught in the Dallas County Community College District, both in Dallas, Texas, as well as being the founder and senior instructor of Crosswind Project Management training.

The placemat is the show

Aside from the book by the same author this may be the single most helpful thing I used to study for the PMP exam. There is so much on this placemat in a clear and concise presentation that is key to passing the PMP exam I can't imagine taking the test without using this tool. All the proccesses with the major ITTOs in a clear flow chart to help you memorize it. Formulas, definitions, it's all hear. Just this alone should add points to your score. Combine it with the book and you've got a formula for success.

Very Helpful for PMP Prep

I ordered this an another Crosswinds place mat -- they were very helpful for my PMP prep and definitely worth the money. I recommend them. (I also used Rita MulCahy's PMP Prep Book and PM FASTrack® PMP® Exam Simulation Software -- I think these are a must for passing the PMP exam, especially if you don't take a PMP Prep course.)

I would recommend all of Crosswinds placemats. They really help you learn the must knows to pass the exam. They are a great compliment to the other Crosswind materials.
