About the Author
Derek Leman is a rabbi, writer, and father of eight who resides in Atlanta. He teaches the Bible regularly both in his own congregation and on an active speaking circuit. As a Messianic Jewish rabbi, he has an appreciation both for Jewish and Christian tradition and brings them all to bear on his writing and thinking. Derek's other writings include The World to Come, Feast, Jesus Didn't Have Blue Eyes, Paul Didn't Eat Pork, and Proverbial Wisdom and Common Sense.

A Messianic Jewish Approach

To quote directly from the book, "It is not that a Messicanic Jewish approach follows a different set of rules of interpretation, but there is a difference in approach. As part of the Jewish community, Messianic Judaism reads the Old Testament from the inside. Often Crhistian readings are looking back on a Jewish book as non-Jews. We in Messianic Judaism live the Old Testament. An interpretation in Leviticus is not mere historical interest to us, but affects how we live." That my friends, is the key. Taking on this perspective has revolutionized my way of thinking about the "Old Testament" and continues to shape my views concerning God. After being part of a Messianic congregation for 2 years, I realize how important this is. It has made "boring" books like Leviticus zing to life for me. I am currently going through the "OT" now and I keep this book with me for constant reference. It is also very user friendly and easy on the eyes. I highly recommend it because there are very few books out there like this. You have to realize it's no "sin" to think outside the "evangelical box."

I Love This New Look!!!!

This book is a great intro into the world of the Old Testament and a must for all Messianic believers or Christians that love the people of the book. Many are afraid that the OT is too difficult to understand in our lives. Leman's love of the Torah will inspire you to not be afraid of looking at the OT. There are so many levels that the Author takes time to explain and eliminates the fears that a lot of us feel when we try to delve into a difficult passage. GREAT READ!!!!

A subject worth research - A book worth reading

Derek Leman has the rare quality of being a respected scholar who gets his ideas across clearly in an interesting manner. An understanding of Old Testament ideas are much needed and serve as our foundation for the new. The perspective offered in this book is an important guide for my study. This well organized 168 page book helped me by clarifying the main ideas in the 39 books of the Old Testament.
