(RAW Rating: 3.5) - Runaway
By The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers
In book three of the Platinum Teen Series, readers get an intimate look at Kera, a character introduced in earlier books. RUNAWAY is told from Kera's point of view and as the book opens, she confronts her boyfriend in a dramatic fashion after walking up on him cuddled up with another girl. Eventually she decides to give him one more chance, but when she catches Manny in yet another lie, she is devastated. A chance encounter in the park leads to Kera meeting a mysterious teen named Shane. His scent and overall appearance make it obvious that he is homeless. Kera, however, sees something special under Shane's layers of dirt. The two begin to form a friendship, partially based on her need to get over Manny, and partly due to the charm and attractiveness of Shane. She puts her safety and reputation on the line for him, only to discover once again that things are not as they seem. Shane seems like a good way to get over Manny and move on with her life, but is he?

As with other titles in the series, RUNAWAY is an engaging tale about high school students trying to find their way in life. Though the book is part of a series, it can easily be enjoyed without having read the prior books. The story is fresh and relevant and targets the consequences of many issues faced by teens, such as substance abuse and sexuality. The ending was a bit disappointing because it seemed rushed and needed a clearer resolution. There were a number of spelling and grammatical errors in the advanced reader copy that were hopefully resolved before the final printing. Overall, Juwell and Precious have penned a novel that captures the attention of the reader and allows them to connect with the characters.

Friendship on Fire
By Nardsbaby
Into its third episode, Platinum Teen Series presents Runaway. Readers are formally introduced to Kera. It's the summer time and although Kera is taking enrichment classes and working, she already knows that it's going to be scorching where her and her girls, Dymond and Porsha, are concerned. To add a little flavor to the mix, the tantalizing three have an additional friend, Solimar, a Latina that they've inducted into their clique.

Is it a match made in heaven, or a curse? At any rate, Kera and Manny are in the thick of it. Although Manny and Kera are dating, Manny is still shopping his options with other chicks. But it's too late because he's already captured Kera's "puppy" love. Heartbroken as she catches Manny being dishonest, disloyal and disrespectful, can the sassy, confident Kera bounce back?

Also invading the series is Shane Warrington, a questionable young man whose time in the park instantly erodes Kera's thoughts. With so much mystery surrounding Shane, Kera finds herself being a confidant, creeping around and eventually separating from her girls. Sandwiched between rumors, drama and judgment will she retreat to being a run-run-runaway?

Ring the alarm Ms. Rhythm didn't raise a sucker, did she?

Like the other books in the Platinum Teen Series, I appreciate the fact that Precious and Juwell are writing books that encompass teens.

Best Platinum Teen Serious Book Yet!
By Jerell
Runaway is a teen-friendly book about a girl named Kera who is in a relationship with her not so perfect boyfriend Manny. After the breakup she meets a nice boy named Shane. He is friendly, caring, fun to talk to, and even attractive. What more can a girl ask for. There is a catch though-he's homeless and a drug addict. Will she finally be done with Manny, or is Shane just a reboud? Why would she even want to be with a boy like Shane? Wouldn't it ruin her rep? Will Kera follow her heart even if it means being viewed by everyone including her cousins as a loser and desperate?

I loved this book. It was fantastic and I expected it to be. With every book in the series it gets better. She just makes my expectations higher every time. This story is well thought out and even has some twist and turns. The ending is terrific and you will never suspect it. What a great book, I give it two thumbs up!
