I wrote this book with two objectives in mind: (1) to make the book as accessible as possible for students encountering this material for the first time, and (2) to make the book as affordable as possible by publishing it myself rather than working with a mainstream textbook publisher.

About the Author
The author is a professor in the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he teaches atmospheric physics and remote sensing to undergraduate meteorology majors and graduate students. His research specialties include satellite microwave remote sensing of rainfall and other atmospheric variables, as well as radiative transfer modeling in three-dimensional clouds.

Excellent book!

An excellent introductory book on atmospheric radiation that fills a previously huge void in the books available on this topic. Written in a style that differs from any textbook I've ever experienced. The book covers a wide spectrum of issues related to atmospheric radiation, but doesn't overwhelm the reader in the process. Practical examples and applications of the theories and ideas presented abound. A very refreshing...dare I say enjoyable...scientific book.

Masterful Exposition

This is among the best scientific textbooks I have read. I wish I could give it six stars. There are interesting points scattered throughout the book, I even got a couple of new perspectives from an early chapter on electromagnetism. The section on radiative heating and cooling due to trace gases (Chapter 10) particularly grabbed me, because of its implications for Global Warming (excuse me, Climate Change). I liked the book so much I even read the Appendix, and sure enough, there was an interesting discussion of the rigorously correct but counterintuitive and computationally troublesome Extinction Paradox. A thouroughly excellent book.

Perfect book for an introductory level

This book was used in my graduate atmospheric radiation class. It was far supperior to the book used in my undergrad class (wallace and hobbs introduction to atmospheric sciences) not that W&H was a bad book but this book is much more focused since it is not as broad as W&H book.

Good aspects of this book is that it starts with a good fundemental background before it delves into the real meat of the course (being radiative calculations for both long wave and short wave theory). The book is very easy to read for someone with introductory knowledge of radiative theory and is not much tougher without this introductory knowledge. The figures are clear and concise and the topics are well organized.

Downfall of this book is the excersices presented to reinforce topics. Most of the excercises are just plug and chug or are descriptive problems that really only require one to read the previous section. more problems and problems that require more thinking would be benificial but the author already aknowledges that this was a week point of the book.

Over all the book was written very well and was easy to understand. It is a great tool for anyone interested in atmospheric radiation, either on an introductory level or as a complement to ones library. Given the other books available for a course on radiation this one ranks near or on the top.

And as a University of Oklahoma Meteorology alumni, I must say, Boomer Sooner.

This book is a total waste. I don't own it but my good friend owns it and it is just horriable! The characters are much too thin and it confused and boring. I don't reccomend this to any one, your much better off buying something else.

I love haunting's and yes I do believe in ghosts. I had a feeling that lake George was haunted, had to be after all the wars that happened out there. I couldn't find much on the internet so I bought this and I was surprised at the places that were haunted.

About the Author
Known throughout the world at the turn of the century as "Pastor"... Charles Taze Russell was an author, lecturer and minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on February 16, 1852. His authorship of the series, Studies in the Scriptures, included The Divine Plan of the Ages, The Time is At Hand, Thy Kingdom Come, The Battle of Armageddon, The Atonement Between God and Man, The New Creation, plus many others.

His life was totally devoted to teaching the Bible, writing and publishing religious articles, lecturing and proclaiming the message of the blessings which would come to mankind when Christ establishes His Kingdom on earth. He did more than any other man in modern times to establish the faith of the people in the validity of the Holy Scriptures.

His weekly sermons were published by a newspaper syndicate composing some 2000 newspapers with a combined circulation of fifteen million readers. "His writings are said to have greater newspaper circulation every week than those of any living man...." (Editor of the "Continent")

In addition, his missionary tour of Russia, where he delivered lectures to thousands of Orthodox Jews on "the regathering of the Jewish people to Palestine," plus his travels to Japan, China, Korea and India to preach the Good News were widely known. On his return to America he was given a standing ovation at the New York City Hippodrome by thousands of Jews, his discourse on "The Returning Favor to Israel" being published by Hebrew newspapers, both in America and Europe.

Convinced of the harmony of the Bible, Pastor Russell devoted his life to the cause to which he gave his life ... the teaching of the Holy Scriptures. He died while on a lecture tour ... October 31, 1916, leaving no estate whatever. Thus closed the career of a most remarkable Christian.

THE Tabernacle which God commanded the people of Israel to construct in the Wilderness of Sin, and in connection with which all their religious services and ceremonies were instituted, was, the Apostle Paul assures us, a shadow of good things to come. (`Heb. 8:5; 10:1`; `Col. 2:17`) In fact, the whole nation of Israel, as well as its laws and its religious services and ceremonies, was typical. This being true, our understanding of the plan and work of salvation now in progress, as well as their future development, cannot fail to be greatly enlightened by a careful study of those "shadows" which the Israelites, for our edification, were caused to repeat year by year continually until the Gospel age introduced their antitypes--the realities. `1 Pet. 1:11`; `Heb. 10:1-3`

It is not simply to gain a historical knowledge of the Jewish forms, ceremonies and worship that we come to the investigation of this subject, but that we may be edified by understanding the substance from an examination of the shadow--as God designed in arranging it.

We shall fail to attach sufficient weight and importance to the shadow unless we realize how carefully God guided and directed all of its details. First, he took Moses up into the mount and gave him an illustration of the manner in which things were to be made; Secondly, he charged him to be careful of every particular--"See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount." (`Heb. 8:5`; `Exod. 25:40`) So, too, with all the minutiae of the service: every jot and tittle had to be exactly performed in the type, because it illustrated something greater and more important to come afterward. And in order that these shadows might all be exactly performed, and that the people might not become careless, the usual penalty for any violation was death. For instances see `Exod. 28:43`; `Num. 4:15,20; 17:13`; `2 Sam. 6:6,7`; `Lev. 10:1,2`

Realizing God's care in making the "shadow" should not only give us confidence in its correctness, that not one jot or tittle of it shall fail until all be fulfilled (`Matt. 5:18`), but should also awaken in us so great an interest in God's plan as would lead us to examine closely and search carefully for the meaning of those shadows. And this, with God's promised blessing, we now purpose to do, assured that among those who are truly God's consecrated ones--his children begotten of his Spirit--"he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened."

Best explanation of Hebrew Tabernacle available

For most Christians, the Tabernacle contains a multitude of largely disconnected pictures of Jesus alone. This book shows, based on the Apostle Pauls exposition, that it shows not only the sacrifice of Jesus, but the place of the Christian also, and how we have privileges and responsibilities, too. It is fascinating to look at all the details and what they illustrate.

An Excellent Aid

This is an excellent Bible study aid on the Tabernacle, I have read many books explaining the subject, but found the author's findings and exposition on this subject very enlightning, I highly recommend it to all students of the Word, especially those who wish to gain better insight on the tabernacle and its types and shadows and what it means to Christians today.

Da Vinci Code Buffs Read This!

If you are a fan of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, and you are interested in the REAL history behind the Mary & Jesus story, I recommend reading this research.

Tyson, whose escoteric investigation into the Gospel of John began long before the famous novel turned all our heads, arrives at much the same conclusion, using a fascinating blend of symbolic interpretation, intertextual analysis, and an intense scrutiny of original documents.

What she discovers is that Jesus was, indeed, married...but not to Mary Magdalene! She does become pregnant... but the identity of the child is intentionally clouded in mystery - is the boy child Jesus' or someone else's? Why would a child have been so important for Jesus?

The point is, a son is needed for a dynasty - for an hereditary priesthood - THIS is what Jesus is doing, and he can only do it in accordance to his beliefs - his SAMARITAN beliefs. Jesus employs the aid of Nicodemus and his son, Lazarus, and Mary Magdalene, the "Samaritan Woman" - in a profoundly orchestrated plan that is partly symbolic, partly practical; Jesus and his little group defy the odds and create a new priestly kingdom at the sacred site of Shiloh.

Tyson's approach is academic, but the style of writing is easy and intimate, at times almost casual. Personally, I enjoy following "clues" and trains of thought, until the evidence reveals itself, but you do have to keep track. There is so much new material here that it's no use referring back to others - no one else even comes near, yet the material, if you follow it closely, is consistent, strongly supported, and very intriguing.

Anyone interested in the link to Qumran, the role of Lazarus, the Pool of Siloam, the notion of an escape from crucifixion, etc., will find something to debate in these pages. It is surely a good source for debates on methodology, interpretation, historicity. Frankly, I've never read another book like it about Jesus.

I bought a copy a while ago (before it was revised to include charts and diagrams...much better!) and became one of its first "fans"... I am even considering using it to teach a course at university, just to get students thinking along new lines.
