To those of you who are indeed "born from above" and know it by the witness of the Scriptures that assure you that you are saved, by the witness of the Spirit enabling you to cry out "Abba, Father" that you are His child, and by the testimony of the holy and loving life you live--I say this: you will never know God and be trained by Him in prayer unless you spend time with Him alone.
I urge you to meet with God at least an hour a day, two if possible. The best time is early in the morning before the day starts when all is quiet and there are no distractions. If you simply cannot do it then, do it when you can, but do it! It takes time to hear from God. He gives Himself to those who wait upon Him. He reveals Himself only to those who seek Him with all their hearts. (Jer. 29:13)
Whether you are a new believer or have walked with God for a long time but have not yet learned to pray, the prescription is the same: time with God alone. You must carve out the time each day to go into your prayer closet, close the door and meet God. No one will do it for you--not even Jesus! No great Christian in history has ever known God apart from spending time alone with Him in the Word, in meditation on the Word, in worship, confession and intercession. I have gotten more opposition to this requirement than anything else I have taught in the last 30 years--but I am sticking to it because it is the law of spiritual communion with God.
Using this book as part of your time with the Lord each morning is powerful because each prayer starts with the Word of God or is written based upon the Word of God. Therefore, God speaks to you before you speak to Him. Instead of coming to God with you doing all the talking--usually about your fears, your burdens, your doubts--you come to God and hear from Him first as He speaks to you through His Word. When you establish your day upon the Word of God which will never pass away--hearing from Him again who He is, who you are in Christ, and keeping that relationship clean through confession, then you will be a fit prayer partner with Christ to pray for the advancement of His Kingdom around the world.

A Wonderful Tool for Prayer.

I've been a Christian for over 20 years. I've had no problem reading and re-reading my Bible or going to church regularly, or going to group Bible studies. However, my prayer life was little to non-existent. I was bored and unfocused. I've read different books on prayer throughout the years. Some were prayer books by themes which practically wrote them out for you; but I felt like I was just reading out of a book, not really communicating with my heavenly Father. I've been using this particular book for over a week, and I am so encouraged. It is in a practical format which is easy to follow and lists hundreds of scriptures. You can easily make your own prayers with the scriptures presented. Her sample prayers are short, sweet and to the point so you can reword them in your own style and they will conform with God's Word. There IS a systematic way to pray and and this book explains it so well you can put it into practice immediately. 'Praying in the Word of God' has helped me to better visualize the riches we really do have in Him. As a result of meditating on the scriptures in the mornings and praying them back to God, I have been uplifted and encouraged. As a result, I am a more thankful person, and I am more compassionate toward others. I am happier and more confident. I am more aware of and thankful for what God has done for me. I find myself thinking about what pleases Him more even througout the day. I used to feel like I had two lives.....my Christian life at home/church and my secular life at work and facing the world. Now I feel myself wanting to be what God wants me to be all the time, not just when it seems convenient. For me, this book IS an answered prayer. There IS a correct way to pray, and this book presents an excellent blueprint. I thank God that He has used this author to communicate His Word in such an effective yet simple way to encourage us to do what He wants us to do. --June 11, 20011-- I would like to add that God has answered so many of my prayers as a result of praying the way He wants us to pray. I give God all the glory!
