Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma includes the text as taught by Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) from 1999 to 2003, with translations by Lama Yeshe Gyamtso and Chojor Radha. His Holiness the Sixteenth Karmapa (Rangjung Rikpe Dorje, 1923-1981) asked that Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche present Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma to Western students. In accordance with this wish, Khenpo Rinpoche began teaching this text in 1999 at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra, the North American seat of His Holiness, located in Woodstock, New York. Rinpoche omitted chapters that he considered restricted; these restricted or secret parts will be taught and published separately at Karma Ling Retreat Center for use by qualified students. This work makes the entire contents of Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma available in English for the first time.

About the Author
Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche was born in Rabshu in the province of Kham in eastern Tibet. He was born at sunrise on Mahakala Day, the twenty-ninth day of the second month in the Year of the Wood Mouse, 1924. On this day, very early in the morning, Rinpoche's mother went to fetch water from the stream, carrying the full vessel of water home. Rinpoche was then born with no pain to his mother.

Excellent teachings on ngondro

This book gives excellent teacings on ngondro, the preliminary practices of Vajrayana Buddhism. Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche is one of the great living masters of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Marpa, Milarepa, and Gampopa. This text is taken from oral instructions during a retreat and has useful question and answer sections at the end of each chapter. This text does not include the original text of Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma- this will be released in a separate volume. There are currently three volumes available with a fourth volume soon to come. This book is a must have for new students to Tibetan Buddhism.

Not only not a translation ...

but unfortunately also full of mistakes. I have had the chance to study one of the chapters of Karma Chagme's excellent Ri-chos with a Tibetan master and now compared my translation with what one find's in this book. I am sad to have to say that I found a great number of inaccuracies and even glaring mistakes. The book is not much more than a loose teaching on some (by far not all!) themes mentioned in the Tibetan text. One must ask at this point, who introduced all the mistakes? I can hardly imagine that the Khenpo was responsible, since some of these mistakes show a complete misreading of the text. Something must have gone wrong in the process of translation. A great disappointment. I would not recommend this book for study at all.

GREAT BOOK

Easily a five star book. There is much comprehensive and in-depth information to this book. For those interested in increasing knowledge and experience, this book is a must. Very grateful for this book!
